Pre-existing conditions, hmm. Since insurance companies exclude them, they must just be a few really uncommon and exotic diseases, right?

Wrong. Actually, many of them are very common. Some of them affect millions of people. There are so many pre-existing conditions, in fact, that you can find at least one for most of the letters of the alphabet (this is a partial list):

  • “A” is for AIDS, Asthma, Alzheimer’s, Autism, Anemia, Anxiety, Arthritis
  • “B” is for Bipolar, Back problems, Bronchitis, Bypass surgery
  • “C” is for Cancer, Cerebral Palsy, COPD, Cardiac failure, Celiac disease, Cystic fibrosis
  • “D” is for Diabetes, Depression, Dialysis, Dementia, Disabled
  • “E” is for Eating disorder, Emphysema, Epilepsy, Encephalitis
  • “F” is for Fibromyalgia, Fainting spells
  • “G” is for Gallstones, Grave’s disease
  • “H” is for Hypertension, High Cholesterol, Heart disease, Heart murmur, Head injury
  • “I” is for Inflammatory bowel disease, Intestinal polyps or bleeding
  • “J” is for Jaundice
  • “K” is for Kidney disease, Kidney failure, Kaposi’s sarcoma
  • “L” is for Liver Cirrhosis, Lupus, Lymphoma, Leukemia
  • “M” is for Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Myocarditis, Migraines
  • “O” is for Obesity & Organ Transplants/ Failure
  • “P” is for Pregnancy, Parkinson’s Disease, Pulmonary infarction, PTSD
  • “R” is for Rheumatic fever, Respiratory disorders, Reproductive disorders
  • “S” is for Sleep Apnea, Schizophrenia, Sickle cell disease, Stent (cardiac), Stroke
  • “T” is for Tuberculosis & Thyroid Disease
  • “U” is for Ulcers
